Colour challenge mark 2

My FM had a go at the colour challenge too - here is her version. This uses Sassy Stems which is retiring in two weeks time. (I think I might have found a new home for mine!!)

kwerner colour challenge

OK, so I have been really slack this week! But hey, I have read a HEAP of amazing books!! It's tough choosing between my two hobbies -reading and stamping - sometimes it all comes down to which one takes less time to clear a space for!! lol

Anyway - here is my card for Kristina's 45th colour challenge. Tricky this week - seems like it would be simle, but it really was hard not reaching for a colour to spice it up.

This uses lovely as a tree - and the split negative technique. I am sorely lacking in stamps that can be used with this technique! This was the only option I had!

So, anyway, here it is.

another kwerner challenge

These things are addictive! Seriously!

Kristina's choice of colours this week are some of my favourites - but I still struggled to find the ink! I must start getting more ink pads!!

Anyway - I used the mojo monday sketch as well, so two challenges in one!

It's pretty self explanatory, so hope you like it :)

kwerner colour challenge

Woah nellie! 3 posts in one night, after a week away!

This blog was always my motivation for myself - even if no one reads it (though obviously I hope they do!) it meant I had to actually create something - otherwise I would just do stuff for other people (like workshops) and nothing for myself. So that's why there wasn't much stuff! But, hopefully I am now over that!! lol

Anyway.. (man, I blabber don't i??) here is my attempt at this week's colour challenge - LOVE these colours. Found it hard to not have a neutral but I cheated a bit - the inspiration pic actually shows a creamy coloured blanket, so I did stamp on white! sorry :( - not really!

This is the Easter Blooms stamp set - love that too! Hate my scanner though! It squishes everything! The flowers are popped up, and the ribbon is nice and "boof-Y" (yes it's a word!!) in real life, but the scanner doesn't get it! Oh well! Imagination is the key! :) Oh, and it says Best Wishes at the bottom - but that is probably my fault that it is so dark, coz I don't have that ink, so I used versmark. :)

kwerner colour challenge 42

OMG!! I had so much trouble with this challenge because even though I own all these papers, (substituting olive for kiwi kiss), I only have olive ink. So I left the paper out on the table for a while, and FM said - it looks like a tiger! So.... I remembered the art lessons we did at Teacher's college using this as a starting point. So that's what i did!! I'm not thrilled with it, but it definitely took me out of my comfort zone! I used my punches to create the cat, and then used the scallop edge for the tail. The grass is cut freehand, and then the off cut is layered under the first cut, so there is grass in front and behind the cat.

The sentiment uses say it with scallops and versamark ink on really rust.
The kids in the house like it anyway!! lol

kwerner challenge 41

ok, so i saw these colours and thought yes! nice, easy, classic, simple....... yeah right!!

The card itself was easy and simple, but it took ages to get to it!! I ended up with all my stamp sets out on the table (and the floor and the couch! - and seriously, I don't have THAT many!) with a sheet each of the colours. Then the stamp sets I liked I couldn't reconcile with the colours - so in disgust, I flicked through my catalogues! yippee!! This is a case of the card on page 16 of the summer mini, but I turned it round and made it into a notelet (that to me is a quarter A4 folded in half). The "ribbon" is basic grey, and the say it with scallops is stamped with real red, as we don't have riding hood red (yet!! I hope it's coming!!)

So, anyway that's the card - taking the photo added even more drama! So yes, it's wonky, but hey - it's legible!! sun glare, shadows, you name it! I have one pic of it that makes the grey look orange! nasty!! :)

more challenges! Kristina first!

wow!! these challenges really do get your brain going!
I have a new flatmate (FM from now on - I think she might be getting addicted!) and she was fascinated that people spend MONEY on this stuff.. and then I was sitting playing around with some new rubber, and she sat down to watch, and all of a sudden, you could see the lightbulb go off!! "ooh" she says. "this is quite cool eh??" "Yes" says I, with a knowing gleam in my eye! "Wanna play?" and the rest is history!
ANYWAY..... one of my blogging sisterhood set a challenge for a masculine valentine's card, and I mentioned it to FM, and about 10 minutes later she came up to me with a little sketch she had jotted down. (aww, bless her!! - see I told you - addicted!) Here is the sketch.

Unfortunately I had kind of already sorted myself out on that challenge so I used the sketch for Kristina's colour challenge. Weird colours again - well one weird one thrown in! That green is LOUD!!
But here is my card (actually, I am not taking total credit - FM told me what colours to put where, and which order and everything - she just wouldn't ACTUALLY do it!!)

this uses two of the new saleabration stamp sets - polka dot punches, and yummy. cardstock is basic black, whisper white so saffron and green galore. Ink is real red.

I have other ideas though so I might be back with another one!

Challenge numbers 2 and 3!

well, my little goal to get out of my comfort zone seems to be working - this weeks kwerner challenge had the colour combination of ruby red, pumpkin pie, pretty in pink and whisper white. I love pumpkin and ruby, but throwing in that pink really makes it tricky! I first tried the day the challenge went up, but could NOT get it, but I was determind to do it! then I figured, GET HELP!! and went to the NZSU blog, and there was a layout from mojomonday, and I thought hmmm, this could work! It's not exactly right, but the basic idea is there.

So, here's my attempt. I'm still not sure about it, but I got the challenge done, and I think that is half the battle for me!

stamps: Eastern blooms, short and sweet
cardstock: pretty in pink, pumpkin pie, whisper white, ruby red
ink: ruby red, pumpkin pie

woohoo my first challenge!!

woohoo!! I finally did it!! I ALWAYS check out Kristina's blog - she is such an amazingly talented lady -but up until now, I have just stalked, and drooled over everyone else's creations. But one of goals this year is step outside my comfort zone, and actually create more stuff, and trust in my own ideas! So, here is my first ever kwernerdesign.com inspiration colour challenge entry.

I am really happy with it, for a few reasons! 1) I know it is simple, but I like simple! 2) Its all mine!! 3) i got out of my comfort zone 4) i know next time I will do better! 5) there will be a next time!

I used the set Live your Dream from the Summer mini, with a chocolate chip base, pumpkin pie mat, then used pumpkin and old olive markers on whisper white for the flowers, pumpkin "thanks" and added a soft sky ribbon (don't have baja breeze here, and that looked the closest to me!) 'scuse the quality of the pic - I scanned it, and my computer does NOT like that!! that ribbon is the grosgrain double stitched, but it looks weird! and the "distressing" is not intentional - I need a new blade in my cutter, but do you think I can find the spare???
